Sep 16 – Wave through the cumulus

We were expecting a largely thermal day with cloud bases off the mountains. In the end we had wave running through the cumulus notably near the Harlech ridge and in the Mawddach valley. Some gliders managed to make contact and were rewarded with climbs to a max of 10,000′ Below the cloud the Cadair Idris was facing the wind and the North face was giving strong ridge lift enhanced by thermals.

Shortly after leaving the Cadair ridge we were back in the wave and above cloud just South of Barmouth.

Here in wave behind Snowdon at 8000′ but not many clues as to it’s existence
