Sep 9 – Wave, but difficult to access

13 launched first to establish how the wave was aligned and the possible route into it. It was difficult and required a short rotor climb within a few hundred meters of the Cadair Idris ridge, then around cloudbase of 4000′ a steady but weak wave was available. Ed and Robin took it 8500′ and then headed North to Snowdon for a similar experience.


The wave slot follows the Dolgellau valley.

For most, unfortunately, it proved too difficult from a normal tow. That said the thermal conditions were very good and the usual convergences kicked in during the afternoon. 13 made use of these for a trip to Anglesey. The flight took them across RAF Valley and to a rather too low point of 1200′ when a patch of sunshine near Mona brought them back up to cloudbase and another line of clouds back to Llanbedr.
