Mar 26 – Lift of all varieties

The day started with a strong North Easterly. So some kind of wave was inevitable, it was rough, very rough. At mountain top height it should have become smooth but the wind then fell off, which made it even rougher, though it was possible to climb flying ovals rather than circles to 11500′. Meanwhile the opposite side of the valley produced some reliable ridge lift from the Alp to the Cadie. By 3pm there were some excellent thermal climbs too, the picture shows the sky just West of Seu D’Urgell, the viz was endless with a 9000′ cloud base, the Pyrenees can be seen in the distance looking Westwards. So a surprisingly good day, though not many flew.

Tomorrow promises light winds and good thermals to 10k +, so we expect a busy day.
