Dec 26th – Nearly lost a day

Just before take-off, I spotted that one of our wingtip bolts had sheared. So it looked like a day fixing it. In the event the wingtip came off with the thread which was removed fairly quickly. I had spare bolts and within a short time we were able to fly.

The cu was limited to Botswana and the Northern part of the gliding area. So we managed a 750km triangle just keeping in the cumulus. Having been told two days ago that the thunderstorms had retreated Eastwards to their proper place, we were surprised as a line developed with a spectacular display of lightning just a few kms to the NE of us. The picture shows the large clouds just before landing.
