Dec 19th – More showers but not before clocking 1100kms

Only a few showers forecast for late on. We set off towards the Gamsburg fairly early and for a change the early thermals took us to 13,000′ – it was going to be a good day. We planned and flew from Gamsburg to Bethanian (NW corner of the soaring area to the SW corner, more or less, and a distance of 380km) this route follows the escarpment and will often produce an energy line, not today though. However, the 10kt climbs and 16,000′ cloud base made up for that. More showers than expected formed in the North and we got back in to Kiripotib with a thunderstorm going off a few miles to the North, but no problems.

A shower that we had to circumnavigate to get back to Kiripotib. It is about to zap Pokweni, that is the small pan just to the left of the word Pokweni. The pan is there normal landing area and it may well have flooded!
